Purpose
The purpose of the Fargo Force Reading Program is to encourage youth in our community to understand the value and importance of reading while developing an enjoyment for doing it! The program is designed to reward those students who spend a portion of their time reading.
Description
The Fargo Force Reading Program is free to classrooms Kindergarten - 6th grade within a 30-mile radius of Fargo-Moorhead. The program is 12 weeks long, beginning November 1st and ending January 31st. The teacher of each class will be responsible for tracking the class progress towards reaching their goal as a group and a printable booklet will be available online for students to track their individual reading progress. Throughout the course of the program, participating classrooms will have the opportunity to sign up for Fargo Force players to visit their class and read to their students! When requesting appearances, please note that they are based on availability in accordance with the team's schedule. Players are not available on game days or on travel days (typically one-day prior/following to an away game).
Reading Goals
The tracking booklet is split into 3 periods, where the student must reach their individual goal in order to get to the next period. The 3 period goals are as follows:
1st Period Goal (November 30th) 400 minutes read
2nd Period Goal (December 31st) 800 minutes read
3rd Period Goal (January 31st) 1200 minutes read
By the end of the program, each child should have 1200 minutes finished! Any reading can be counted including parents/guardians reading to students and teachers reading to students/reading aloud during class periods. A parent, guardian or teacher must initial next to minutes read throughout each period to confirm that it was completed. Upon completing each goal as listed above, the student will be awarded a prize for their efforts and as an incentive to complete the full program!
The Fargo Force encourages all students to reach beyond their goals as a pizza party with Ogie and the Force players will come to the classroom who reads the most minutes as a group at the end of the program!
Reader of the Month
At the end of each month (November through January), each participating teacher has an option to nominate one student for the Fargo Force Reader of the Month award. Each Reader of the Month will be awarded a certificate and will be invited as a special guest to a game with his/her family, where they will be announced and put up on the big screen! The winner will also be recognized on the Fargo Force website!

If you are a parent wanting to do this with your own children, feel free to print the Reading Booklet Tracker and do it at home!
