GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Force improved their record to 2-1 tonight after a 4-1 win over the Green Bay Gamblers of the Eastern Conference.
The contest kicked off with Green Bay pressing hard, but great stops by Force netminder Anton Castro kept the Gamblers at Bay. The Gamblers struck first with a goal at 5:07 of the opening period.
The Force battled back hard in the middle frame, and got rewarded for their efforts with a well played rebound for a goal from from newly-named Captain, Kyle Smolen, tying the game at ones.
Fargo continued their heavy pressure for the remainder of the second period, with just 1:26 left in the second, Tanner Walos cleaned up a loose puck on the right side of the Gamblers crease, giving the Force a 2-1 lead going into the third.
A power-play marker at the mid-way point of the third period by Verner Miettinen extended the Force's lead to 3-1. Charlie Russell made a beautiful pass from the top of the right circle, found Miettinen wide open, and Verner tucked it home. Anthony Menghini added a fourth goal with the Gamblers goalie pulled, finalizing the score at 4-1.
The Force make their way back to Fargo for their season opener on October 8th against the Sioux Falls Stampede. Tickets are selling fast, so get yours today!
