Steve Briere – Goaltending Coach
Steve Briere, 34, is in his first season as Goalie Coach of the Fargo Force of the USHL. Steve is no stranger to the USHL having spent the past two seasons with the Omaha Lancers as the goalie coach. As a player in the USHL Steve was a team MVP with the Sioux City Musketeers and the Omaha Lancers in ’96-’97.
Briere attended the University of Alabama Huntsville on a full scholarship from 97-00 and graduated in 2000 with a B.S.B.A degree in Marketing. In his freshmen year, Briere helped the Chargers win the NCAA DII National Championship. The following year as a Division I program, members of the CHA, Steve was honored as All Conference Goaltender and went on to sign in the AHL with the Boston Bruins Organization.
A veteran of over 600 professional games spanning a nine-year career, at 5’8 an ingrained work ethic helped him move up through the ranks from the CHL, ECHL, the AHL, and the IHL where in 2000 Briere, had the opportunity to play along-side one of his boyhood heroes Ken Wregget as a member of the Manitoba Moose in the IHL going all the way to the IHL semi finals Loosing to the Chicago Wolves. Steve enjoyed the majority of his success playing in the Elite Hockey League in Britain where he played for four seasons and winning two league Championship teams and was named League MVP as well as goaltender of the year on two occasions.
Steve retired in 2006 to become the Graduate/Assistant Coach at UAH and pursue his MBA. Steve graduated in 2008 with an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Management and has used his degree to start numerous corporations such as Canadian Professional Goalie Schools, CPGS tv, Huntsville Madison Roller Hockey Association and most recently the Briere’s Hockey Training Facility.
Steve has also had the opportunity to learn from many of the NHL’s top goalie coaches Mitch Korn of the Nashville Predators, Wayne Thomas and Cory Schwab of the San Jose Sharks, Steve McKeekan former goalie coach to the Toronto Maples Leafs.
Briere and his wife Pamela, along with daughter Morgan 7, and son Cameron 3, reside in Minneapolis Minnesota.
