2012 USHL Entry Draft Results

The Fargo Force selected one goaltender, seven defensemen and five forwards in the 2012 USHL Entry Draft that took place on Tuesday night. With their first pick, 20th overall, they selected goaltender Tomas Sholl. Sholl, a Hermosa Beach, CA native committed to Bowling Green University, played with the Fresno Monsters in the NAHL last season where he posted a 20-16-4 record with two shutouts and a .920 save percentage.

“Tomas was the highest end goaltender that we felt was available in the draft with junior experience”, said Assistant Coach/Director of Scouting Jesse Davis. “Being that we didn’t have a pick until the middle of the second round, we made a trade to move up three spots in order to get him. Other teams in the league were looking for goaltenders and we wanted to make sure we could get him. We are very excited to get him. With losing Zane Gothberg to school, we knew it was a big hole that we had to fill and we wanted to secure it with a player we were really confident in. We did that with Tomas Sholl.”

Each year drafts are held in which every USHL team participates in several rounds to select players for the 2012-13 season. For the entry draft, only players who have a birth date of 1992 or younger are eligible to be drafted. Being drafted doesn’t guarantee that the player will be on the team at the start of the season, it just means their USHL rights belong to the team that drafted them. The Fargo Force selected the following players (in order of when selected):

“As we went through the draft process, we felt we had some specific needs that we needed to fill in our hockey club”, added Davis. “We tried to draft at each point, the highest available players to us. We wanted guys that could step in and play for us next year. Once we met those needs, we started to look at our affiliate list and the holes we were going to have there that we needed to fill. We feel we hit every need and beyond with our draft picks and are very happy with our picks.”All of the players will be notified of their selection upon the completion of the draft within 24-48 hours by the Fargo Force coaching staff. All players selected will report to Fargo Force tryouts in Mendota Heights, MN June 1-3 where they will have to compete for a spot on the 2012-13 roster.
