Force eeks out win at Cedar Rapids
The Fargo Force got back in the win column with a 2-1 win over Cedar Rapids on Saturday night. The win snapped a short two-game losing streak and pulled Fargo within seven points of first place with 17 games left in the regular season.
Taylor Fleming scored his third USHL goal to break a scoreless tie 34 seconds into the third period. Western Michigan commit Colton Hargrove gathered in the lone assists to extend his point streak to five games. Hargrove, a second year forward, now has points in 16 of his last 20 games.
John Gilmour evened the game exactly seven minutes later, but it was the Force that would get the better of the second period and the game.
Former Lakeville North (MN-HS) driller Nate Arentz netted the game-winning goal in the back half of the second period with an assist going to David Gust. Arentz has 16 points in 37 games after accumulating just eight points in 55 contests last season.
North Dakota commit Zane Gothberg secured his 17th win of the season and 31st of his career with a 22-save effort. Gothberg, also a Boston Bruins draft pick, is third in the league in goals against average (2.43) and fourth in save percentage (.913).
The Force returns to Fargo on Friday to take on Western Conference leading Omaha.
