FORCE BEAT PHANTOMS; REMAIN UNBEATEN AT HOME

The Fargo Force were victorious over the Youngstown Phantoms by a score of 2-1 tonight in front of a crowd of 3,239 at Scheels Arena.

The first period was a scoreless clash between the Force and the Phantoms. Between the two teams, there were 14 shots on goal and six penalties but neither team were able to capitalize.

Just over half way through the second period, defenseman Justin Wade scored his first goal of the season with an assist by Brendan Harms to put the Force on the board.  At 14:01, forward Jordan Nelson picked up his third goal of the season to extend the Force’s lead to 2-0. Nelson was setup on the play by Dominic Toninato and Harms.

“Well, we had a couple goals and that was to slow them up through the neutral zone, hit a little harder in the forecheck, and trying to play in our lanes a little better, which we did, which resulted in the second goal. That goal was as pretty as a goal you could draw up,” said Coach John Marks of his team’s improvement tonight.

Youngstown cut the deficit to one as forward Kyle Connor snuck one past goalie Brendan Jensen at the 5:21 mark in the third period. With a couple great saves by Jensen, the Force were able to stay ahead of Youngstown as both teams wagered a tough battle in the remaining of the third period.

“I thought Jensen played well, he controlled his rebounds well and had to make a couple pretty big saves. All and all I thought it was a pretty good team effort,” Marks says of his goalie’s performance in tonight’s contest.

The Force hit the road for a two game series in Lincoln this weekend but will be back at home on Friday, Oct. 26 to take on the Chicago Steel. Game time is 7:35 PM and it is a “Skate with the Force” night where you can skate with the team following the game. Single game tickets are available by either visiting the Scheels Arena box office or by calling 701.364.3672.
