Best in West takes down Fargo 6-2
The Omaha Lancers proved why they are the top team in the USHL’s Western Conference with a convincing 6-2 win over the Fargo Force.
Omaha built a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Max Vallis, Nolan Zajac, and Kevin Schulze. That’s all they would need in the game, as Fargo was unable to sustain a threatening rally in the contest.
The Force did cut the deficit to 3-1 in the second period when first year forward Dave Gust found the back of the net. Minnesota recruit Gabe Guertler gathered in the lone assist on the play.
The third period presented an opportunity, but a penalty filled period erased the hope of a comeback.
Kenny Morrison was the beneficiary on a man advantage in the middle of the third. The goal put Omaha back in front by three.
Fargo’s Bryn Chyzyk continued his torrid pace by netting his 20th goal of the season to pull the team back within two at 4-2. That’s as close as Fargo was able to get.
Former Force forward Jimmy Murray found the back of the net and Omaha added anothergoal in thefinal minute to complete the 6-2 win.
Zane Gothberg stopped 22 of 28 shots and was handed his second straight loss after posting a nine game winning streak.
